Date: February 11, 2012
The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tbilisi: MIA (#5) and STU (#6). STU was crushed at home by 38 points 59-97 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game without a history. MIA led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to STU's 40. MIA forced 19 STU turnovers and outrebounded them 55-26 including a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American forward Tracy Smith (203, college: N.Carolina St., agency: Strategic Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds (on 16-of-21 shooting from the field) for the winners and his fellow American import guard Larry Blair (183-84, college: Liberty, agency: Pro One Sports) chipped in 23 points, 6 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals. At the losing side forward Zviad Antadze (198-88, college: Monroe Coll.) responded with 13 points and guard George Khaniashvili (194-89) scored 9 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. MIA (8-4) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Sokhumi. Newly promoted STU keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. They share it with Dinamo Tbilisi and TSU Tbilisi. MIA's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Olimpi.
