Regular Season Round 8: Maranhao - Blumenau 83-63

There was a small surprise in Maranho where sixth ranked Maranhao (5-7) outscored 6th ranked Blumenau (4-9) 83-63 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Maranhao. Blumenau was better in fourth quarter 27-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Blumenau to just 7 points in third quarter. The best player for the winners was international swingman Iziane Castro Marques (183-82, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who scored 35 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Forward Renatinha Oliveira (182-85) chipped in 8 points and 10 rebounds. Maranhao's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cuban forward Yulianne Rodriguez (185-82) produced 22 points and 6 rebounds and guard Roberta Fogaca (166-87) added 17 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Maranhao maintains sixth position with 5-7 record. Loser Blumenau dropped to the seventh place with nine games lost. Maranhao will face Basquete Clube (#8) in Aracatuba in the next round. Blumenau will play at home against the league's leader Americana in Vila Medon.
