Regular Season Round 30: Vahostav-Zilina - Handlova 65-74

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Vahostav-Zilina (6-20) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Handlova (16-11) 74-65 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 37-26 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Handlova forced 23 Vahostav-Zilina turnovers. Strangely Vahostav-Zilina outrebounded Handlova 36-17 including a 21-10 advantage in defensive rebounds. Vahostav-Zilina was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American swingman Anthony Jones (194-84, college: Indiana Tech) who scored 32 points, 5 assists and 6 steals. The other American import forward Sean Hampton (195-75, college: Alders.-Broad.) chipped in 16 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Serbian center Dejan Stojanovic (206-78) who recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds and guard Viliam Kosa (190-86) added 22 points respectively. Handlova have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 16-11 record. Vahostav-Zilina at the other side stay at the bottom place with 20 games lost. Handlova will face Levice (#7) on the road in the next round. Vahostav-Zilina will play against SKP Banska Bystrica and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
