Regular Season Round 18: Apollon Patras - AEK/Argous 85-75
Date: February 11, 2012
Bottom-ranked AEK/Argous (0-18) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their 18th consecutive match to second ranked Apollon Patras (14-4) 85-75. The game was mostly controlled by Apollon Patras. AEK/Argous was better in third quarter 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Apollon Patras forced 20 AEK/Argous turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by AEK/Argous' players. Naturalized Serbian swingman Vladimir Petrovic-Stergiou (198-77, agency: BeoExcell) notched 22 points (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and Croatian center Ivan Krolo (217-83) supported him with 14 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Apollon Patras' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists by naturalized Serbian guard Alex Stevovic (191-90) did not help to save the game for AEK/Argous. Forward Gianni Vavatsikos (201-90) added 18 points and 6 rebounds. Four AEK/Argous players scored in double figures. Apollon Patras have an impressive six-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Panelefsiniakos. AEK/Argous at the other side still closes the standings. Apollon Patras will play against Lavrio (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. AEK/Argous will play against the league's leader Panelefsiniakos (#1) in Eleusina and hopes to get finally their first victory.
