Regular Season Round 8: Al Gharafa - Al Wakrah 80-49

Date: February 11, 2012
The game with biggest result difference took place in Doha. Local Al Gharrafah (6-2) outscored 7th ranked Al Wakrah (1-7) 80-49. Al Gharrafah had a 36-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by American guard Boney Watson (183, college: Sam Houston St.) who scored that evening 22 points and 9 assists and Senegalese forward Ibou Gueye Sarr (204-83) supported him with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Four Al Gharrafah players scored in double figures. Al Gharrafah's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Even a double-double of 12 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists by Senegalese guard Sobilhaj Abdu (197) did not help to save the game for Al Wakrah. International center Mame Souleye (206-87) added 18 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks for the guests. Al Gharrafah have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with As Sadd. Al Wakrah lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with seven games lost. Al Gharrafah's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Jaysh.
