Everything went according to plan when eleventh ranked Villeneuve D'Asco (8-11) beat on the road bottom-ranked Nice (4-15) 95-86 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 95-86. Villeneuve D'Asco made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Nice turnovers. Strangely Nice outrebounded Villeneuve D'Asco 41-23 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Nigerian center Olayinka Sanni (188-86, college: W.Virginia, agency: Josep and Nicolas) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. The former international guard Sabrina Palie (177-81, agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in 23 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Five Villeneuve D'Asco players scored in double figures. Forward Fabienne Constant (186-86) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds and guard Aminata Konate (170-90) added 9 points and 13 assists respectively for lost side. Nice's coach Olga Tarasenko rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Villeneuve D'Asco moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Charleville. Newly promoted Nice stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Villeneuve D'Asco will meet at home higher ranked Mondeville (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Nice will play against Lattes Montpellier (#3) and hope to secure a win.
