There was a minor upset in Madrid where 9th ranked Gernika (7-10) was defeated by eleventh ranked ASEFA Estudiantes (6-11) 76-60 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 76-60. ASEFA Estudiantes made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. ASEFA Estudiantes outrebounded Gernika 47-26 including a 22-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for the former international power forward Marta Zurro (186-80) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of her seven free throws). Center Sara Rodriguez (185-93) helped adding 13 points. At the losing side American forward Tynikki Crook (185-89, college: Marshall) responded with 13 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Judith Monasterio (170-84) scored 7 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. ASEFA Estudiantes maintains eleventh place in Group B with 6-11 record. Gernika lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth position with ten games lost. ASEFA Estudiantes will face higher ranked Orion-GDKO (#10) in Galdakao in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
