Regular Season Round 19: Ensino - Cortegada 66-59

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Cortegada (12-3) against fifth ranked Maquinaria Ensino (9-5) on Saturday night. Visiting Cortegada was defeated by Maquinaria Ensino in a tough game in Lugo 59-66. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Cortegada. The hosts were already 15 points ahead at halftime and as many as 18 after three quarters before a 22-11 last quarter charge of Cortegada cut the lead to 66-59 at the end of the game. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Regina Gomez (174-82) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 4 assists. American forward Utahya Drye (185-88, college: Virginia Tech) contributed with 9 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Maquinaria Ensino's coach Javier Munoz used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Latvian forward Dita Liepkalne (185-87, college: Hawaii) answered with 18 points and 6 rebounds and power forward Aitana Cuevas (187-86) added 12 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Cortegada. Maquinaria Ensino moved-up to fourth place in Group A. Cortegada at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. Maquinaria Ensino's next round opponent will be Aguere (#10) in Santa Cruz de T. which should be theoretically an easy game. Cortegada will play at home against Universidad de Valladolid (#13).
