Regular Season Round 26: Cape Breton - UPEI 100-63
Date: February 11, 2012
No shocking result in a game in Sydney where third ranked Cape Breton (10-5) smashed 8th ranked UPEI (2-14) 100-63 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Cape Breton. UPEI was better in third quarter 21-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cape Breton dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to UPEI's 30. Cape Breton forced 28 UPEI turnovers and had a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Cassie Cooke (175-91, college: Mt.St.Marys) who scored 36 points (!!!) and 7 assists. Forward Stephanie Toxopeus (191) chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds. Four Cape Breton players scored in double figures. Forward Emily Maceachern (183) produced 14 points (perfect from the field making all six shots) and guard Amy Gough (178) added 12 points respectively for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Cape Breton have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. UPEI lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 14 games lost. Cape Breton will face league's leader Acadia in Wolfville in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. UPEI will play on the road against St.Francis Xavier (#5) in Antigonish.
