The game in Riga supposed to be also quite interesting. 5th ranked Jelgava (9-11) played at the court of sixth ranked VEF Riga (9-1). VEF Riga smashed Jelgava 95-66 on Sunday. The game without a history. VEF Riga led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Jelgava's 26. They outrebounded Jelgava 38-25 including a 28-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. VEF Riga looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The former international guard Sandis Valters (193-78) fired 19 points and 4 assists for the winners. American forward Tyler Cain (203-88, college: S.Dakota) chipped in 18 points. Five VEF Riga players scored in double figures. Forward Armands Senkans (197-90) produced 16 points and guard Kalvis Krumins (183-90) added 5 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Jelgava's coach already knew that his team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the third consecutive win for VEF Riga. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place. Jelgava lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the sixth position with 11 games lost. VEF Riga will have a break next round. Jelgava will play on the road against Liepaja (#3).
