Regular Season Round 17: UCC Demons - DCU Saints 91-76

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of DCU Saints (15-3) in Cork on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by UCC Demons (10-5) 91-76. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of DCU Saints. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 9-5 record before this meeting. They outrebounded DCU Saints 38-25 including 30 on the defensive glass. UCC Demons looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American forward Shawn Atupem (200-89, college: Mt.St.Mary's) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). The former international guard Shane Coughlan (188-79) contributed with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Forward Patrick Glover (193-77) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and American center Michael Trimmer (204-67, college: Wooster) added 19 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) in the effort for DCU Saints. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. UCC Demons maintains first place with 10-5 record which they share with defeated DCU Saints. DCU Saints at the other side still keep top position with three games lost. UCC Demons are looking forward to face UCD Marian (#3) in Dublin in the next round, which may be the game of the day. DCU Saints will play on the road against UL Eagles in Limerick and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
