The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Okinawa GK (25-7) in Mikawa on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Hamamatsu Phoenix (20-11) 101-97. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Okinawa GK. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 19-11 record before this meeting. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Hamamatsu Phoenix made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game. The best for the losing side was center Jeff Newton (205-81, college: Indiana) with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds and Anthony McHenry (202-83, college: Georgia Tech) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Hamamatsu Phoenix and five Okinawa GK players scored in double figures. Okinawa GK's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains first position with 20-11 record which they share with defeated Okinawa GK. Okinawa GK at the other side still keeps top place with seven games lost. Hamamatsu Phoenix are looking forward to face Miyazaki Shining Suns (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Okinawa GK will play against Yokohama BC (#5) and is hoping to win this game.
