Regular Season Round 21: Novipiu Casale - JuveCaserta 76-77

A very interesting game took place in Casale. It ended with only one-point home defeat of 16th ranked Novipiu CM (5-15) to eleventh ranked Otto Caserta (9-10) 77-76 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. Otto Caserta made 21-of-26 charity shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Strangely Novipiu CM outrebounded Otto Caserta 41-26 including a 15-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American point guard Andre Collins (183-82, college: Loyola, MD) who scored 23 points and 7 assists. His fellow American import forward Andre Smith (203-85, college: N.Dakota St.) chipped in 25 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Mustafa Shakur (192-84, college: Arizona) who recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 assists and Bosnian swingman Jasmin Hukic (204-79, agency: Beo Basket) added 11 points and 14 rebounds respectively. Four Novipiu CM players scored in double figures. Novipiu CM's coach Marco Crespi rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Otto Caserta moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Angelico BI. Newly promoted Novipiu CM dropped to the bottom position with 15 games lost. Otto Caserta's next round opponent will be higher ranked Cimberio Varese (#9) at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Novipiu CM will play against the league's second-placed Armani Milano (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
