Regular Season Round 16: Panathinaikos - Aris 67-63
Date: February 12, 2012
No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Panathinaikos (10-5) beat 9th ranked Aris (4-12) in Athens 67-63 on Sunday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Aris trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 24-17 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 63-67 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Aris 45-27 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Diana Delva (188, college: Hartford) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds (made all of her seven free throws). The former international power forward Afroditi Kosma (187-83) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Panathinaikos' coach Giasemi Siamandoura used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Guard Roula Mouli (177-85) replied with 21 points and 6 rebounds and guard Niki Hatzakou (175-82) added 17 points in the effort for Aris. Panathinaikos have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Asteras. Aris lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 12 games lost. Panathinaikos will face bottom-ranked Apollon Ptol. (#12) in Ptolemaida in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Aris' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Thessaloniki PAOK.
