We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Maranho where 5th ranked Santo Andre (8-6) was edged by sixth ranked Maranhao (5-7) 61-60 on Monday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Santo Andre won third quarter 16-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maranhao dominated on the defensive end, holding Santo Andre to just 7 points in first quarter. The best player for the winners was international swingman Iziane Castro Marques (183-82, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who scored 24 points and 7 rebounds. Center Dominick Rocha (185-89) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. International forward Micaela Martins (180-79, agency: Josep and Nicolas) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds and the former international forward Jaqueline Silvestre (177-86) added 18 points respectively for the guests. Santo Andre will play at home against Sao Jose and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
