Regular Season Round 16: Grindavik - Valur 119-81

Leader Grindavik delivered the fifteenth victory on Monday night. This time they crushed bottom-ranked Valur (0-16) 119-81. The game without a history. Grindavik led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Valur's 48. They outrebounded Valur 46-29 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Grindavik looked well-organized offensively handing out 38 assists comparing to just 23 passes made by Valur's players. Worth to mention a quality performance of American forward J'Nathan Bullock (196-87, college: Cleveland St., agency: Pro One Sports) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international center Sigurdur Thorsteinsson (204-88) who added 15 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) during the contest. Grindavik's coach Helgi Jonas Gudfinnsson felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side center Birgir Petursson (205-86) responded with 16 points and 5 rebounds and Benedikt Blondal (-93) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Grindavik (15-1) have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Newly promoted Valur still closes the standings. Grindavik will meet Haukar (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Valur will play against Tindastoll in Sauoarkrokur and hopes to get finally their first victory.
