Rather predictable result when sixth ranked Hap.Petah Tikva (7-8) defeated at home 10th ranked Elitzur Holon (3-13) 89-78 on Monday. The game was mostly controlled by Hap.Petah Tikva. Elitzur Holon managed to win second period 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hap.Petah Tikva shot 60.7 percent from the field and made 18-of-19 free shots (94.7 percent) during the game. Strangely Elitzur Holon outrebounded Hap.Petah Tikva 42-29 including a 23-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American swingman Sheri Lynette Sam (183-74, college: Vanderbilt, agency: Ronsport) who had a triple-double by scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Her fellow American import forward Kaili McLaren (188-88, college: Connecticut) chipped in 27 points and 6 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). American forward Tierney Jenkins (182-89, college: Alabama) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 18 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and international forward Bar Gilinsky (185-92) added 18 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Hap.Petah Tikva maintains sixth place with 7-8 record. Elitzur Holon lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with 13 games lost. Hap.Petah Tikva will meet higher ranked Maccabi Ramat Hen (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Elitzur Holon will play against Elitzur Netanya (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
