Regular Season Round 18: Hod Hasharon - Hapoel Afula 74-69

Date: February 14, 2012
The game in Hod Hasharon was also quite interesting. One of their biggest challengers Hapoel Afula (10-8) played at the court of seventh ranked Hod Hasharon (10-8). Hod Hasharon managed to secure a 5-point victory 74-69 on Tuesday. Hapoel Afula was trailing by 8 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 18-11 charge of Hod Hasharon, which allowed them to win the game. The former international guard Avi Sukar (187-76) notched 18 points and 5 assists to lead the effort and Puerto Rican point guard Javier Gonzalez (182-89, college: N.Carolina St.) supported him with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Hod Hasharon players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 22 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists by American forward Gregg Thondique (201-87, college: Virginia Union) did not help to save the game for Hapoel Afula. His fellow American import guard Ronny LeMelle (196-81, college: Auburn) added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Hod Hasharon have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Kiryat Tivon and Hapoel Afula. Hod Hasharon will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hapoel Afula will play against Hapoel Kfar Saba (#12) and hope to secure a win and be promoted back to the Premier League just one year after relegation.
