Regular Season Round 16: Toshiba BT - Hitachi SR 65-68

Eighth-ranked Toshiba Thunders (4-28) used its home court advantage to challenge third ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (19-13) in Kanagawa. The visitors from Osaka managed to secure only three-point victory 68-65. However their fans expected much easier game. It looked good early as Toshiba Thunders took an 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Hitachi Sunrockers had a 18-9 second period charge getting the lead and Toshiba Thunders were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 65-68. International power forward Joji Takeuchi (206-85, agency: N.E.T.) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Toshihiro Sato (176-80) chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds. Four Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. The former international swingman Shohei Kikuchi (190-85) produced 25 points (perfect from downtown making all five shots) and American forward Chris Moss (204-80, college: W.Virginia) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Toshiba Thunders' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total thirteen players in this game, but that didn't help. Hitachi Sunrockers maintains third position with 19-13 record having four points less than leader Toyota Alvark, which they share with Panasonic T. Toshiba Thunders at the other side stay dead last with 28 lost games. Hitachi Sunrockers' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Osaka to the arena Panasonic Trians.
