Regular Season Round 17: Avila - Tenerife 70-79

Bottom-ranked Tenerife managed to get a fourth victory, breaking the series of seven consecutive loses. This time newly promoted Tenerife won against ninth-ranked Fontedoso Carrefour in Avila 79-70. It looked good early as Fontedoso Carrefour took an 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Tenerife had a 25-16 second period charge getting the lead and Fontedoso Carrefour was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 70-79. Point guard Ignacio Guigou (186-91) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points. American forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry, agency: Prossin Sports Management) contributed with 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Monroe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Guard Luis Parejo (196-89) answered with 16 points and Czech forward Ondrej Kohout (204-91) added 12 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Fontedoso Carrefour. Tenerife (4-12) moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Gandia Basquet. Fontedoso Carrefour at the other side keeps the ninth position with nine games lost. Tenerife will play against league's second-placed Ourense at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Fontedoso Carrefour will have a break next round.
