We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Galdakao where 10th ranked Orion-GDKO (7-11) was defeated by eleventh ranked ASEFA Estudiantes (7-11) 79-62 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by ASEFA Estudiantes. Orion-GDKO was better in fourth quarter 22-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Orion-GDKO 42-27 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Marta Zurro (186-80) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds. Center Mariana Gonzalez (187-88) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. Center Ana Roman (192-82) produced 19 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and Greek forward Vicky Volonaki (179-80) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. ASEFA Estudiantes moved-up to ninth place in Group B, which they share with Orion-GDKO and Gernika. ASEFA Estudiantes will face Cravic Reus (#12) at home in the next round.
