Regular Season Round 20: Taipans - Tigers 77-56
Date: February 18, 2012
No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Cairns Taipans (13-10) crushed at home 6th ranked Melbourne Tigers (10-13) 77-56 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Cairns Taipans. Melbourne Tigers managed to win fourth quarter 11-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Melbourne Tigers 43-31 including 31 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by American point guard Jamar Wilson (185-84, college: Albany, agency: Pro One Sports) who scored that evening 25 points and 7 rebounds and swingman Aaron Grabau (196-78) supported him with 13 points. Even a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds by American point guard Myron Allen (180-79, college: Lee JC) did not help to save the game for Melbourne Tigers. The former international forward Liam Rush (202-82) added 10 points for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cairns Taipans maintains fourth position with 13-10 record. Loser Melbourne Tigers keep the sixth place with 13 games lost. Cairns Taipans will meet league's second-placed Perth Wildcats on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Melbourne Tigers will play against Adelaide 36ers (#8) in Findon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
