Regular Season Round 15: TM Hotel Cork - Meteors 84-55

Rather expected game when 5th ranked Peugeot Meteors (8-7) were crushed on the road by second ranked TM Hotel Cork (15-2) 84-55 on Saturday. TM Hotel Cork dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Peugeot Meteors' 28. TM Hotel Cork forced 30 Peugeot Meteors turnovers and outrebounded them 41-26 including a 24-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Niamh Dwyer (176-82, college: Monmouth) who scored 22 points and 6 rebounds. The former international guard Claire Rockall (178-90, college: Iowa St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Four TM Hotel Cork players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Rachel Fitzgerald (-89) who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds and guard Beth Meany (168-90) added 13 points and 8 steals respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. TM Hotel Cork maintains second place with 15-2 record having just -2 point less than leader UL Aughinish. Loser Peugeot Meteors keep the fifth position with seven games lost. TM Hotel Cork will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Peugeot Meteors will play against the league's leader UL Aughinish (#1) in Limerick and hope to secure a win.
