No shocking result in a game when ninth ranked Charleville-Mezieres (9-11) defeated on the road 13th ranked Lyon (5-15) 79-70 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Lyon won third quarter 24-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was Mali center Djene Diawara (192-85) who had a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds. Bulgarian guard Ekaterina Dimitrova (182-87) chipped in 14 points. Five Charleville-Mezieres players scored in double figures. American center Krystal Thomas (195-89, college: Duke) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and Turkish power forward Leigh Aziz (186-79, college: Syracuse) added 16 points respectively for the hosts. Charleville-Mezieres maintains ninth position with 9-11 record, which they share with Villeneuve. Lyon lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth place with 15 games lost. Charleville-Mezieres will face higher ranked Tarbes (#7) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Lyon will play against Arras (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
