Regular Season Round 29: Dalhousie - Cape Breton 75-89

Date: February 18, 2012
Everything went according to plan in Halifax where second ranked Cape Breton (14-5) won against 6th ranked Dalhousie (7-11) 89-75 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Cape Breton. Dalhousie was better in fourth quarter 25-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cape Breton forced 20 Dalhousie turnovers. The best player for the winners was American guard Cassie Cooke (175-91, college: Mt.St.Marys) who scored 38 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Guard Jahlica Kirnon (170) chipped in 14 points and 4 assists. Guard Anna Von Maltzahn (180-91) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and guard Courtney Thompson (175) added 19 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Dalhousie's coach Anna Stammberger tested ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Cape Breton. They maintain second place with 14-5 record having eight points less than leader Regina. Loser Dalhousie keeps the sixth position with 11 games lost. Cape Breton will face UPEI (#8) in Charlottetown in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Dalhousie will play at home against UNB in Fredericton and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
