Regular Season Round 29: Ottawa - Toronto Univ. 74-58

Date: February 18, 2012
Not a big story in a game when 3rd placed Toronto (14-8) was defeated on the road by first ranked Ottawa (19-3) 74-58 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Ottawa. Toronto was better in third quarter 21-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ottawa forced 19 Toronto turnovers and outrebounded them 47-26 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was center Hannah Sunley-Paisley (186) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds. Power forward Jenna Gilbert (183, college: La Salle) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Sherri Pierce (168) produced 27 points and swingman Joanna Medri (175) added 6 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Ottawa. They maintain first place with 19-3 record. Loser Toronto keeps the third position with eight games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
