Regular Season Round 17: Lucca - Cagliari CUS 71-56

Date: February 19, 2012
There was no surprise when 11th ranked Cagliari CUS (3-14) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Lucca (11-6) 71-56 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Lucca. Cagliari CUS managed to win fourth quarter 20-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lucca forced 22 Cagliari CUS turnovers and outrebounded them 43-18 including a 19-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. American center Shamela Hampton (191-87, college: UNLV) stepped up and scored 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and her fellow American import power forward Courtney Willis (188-82, college: E.Carolina, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 10 points and 11 rebounds. American guard Latara Darrett (178-88, college: Prairie View A&M) responded with 19 points and 5 steals and Slovakian center Klaudia Lukacovicova (193-90) scored 7 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lucca moved-up to third place, which they share with Comense. Loser Cagliari CUS keeps the eleventh position with 14 games lost. Lucca will meet CA Faenza (#7) on the road in the next round. Cagliari CUS will play against Umbertide (#5) and hope to secure a win.
