Regular Season Round 16: Toyota Alvark - Tochigi Brex 101-69

Rather predictable result when first ranked Toyota Alvark (23-9) rolled over 5th ranked Tochigi Brex (15-17) in Fuchu 101-69 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Toyota Alvark. Tochigi Brex was better in second period 25-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Toyota Alvark dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Tochigi Brex's 36. They outrebounded Tochigi Brex 42-24 including a 30-10 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Toyota Alvark especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 58.8 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Quite impressive performance for American forward Philip Ricci (202-80, college: Oregon St.) who helped to win the game recording 20 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The other American import forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) contributed with 15 points and 9 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. American forward Ivan McFarlin (203-82, college: Oklahoma St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and international guard Takuya Kawamura (193-86) added 9 points and 4 assists in the effort for Tochigi Brex. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Toyota Alvark have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 23-9 record, which they share with Aishin SH. Loser Tochigi Brex keeps the fifth place with 17 games lost. Toyota Alvark will face bottom-ranked Toshiba Thunders (#8) in Kanagawa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Tochigi Brex will play at home against the league's second-placed Aishin Sea Horses in Kariya.
