Regular Season Round 29: Dalhousie - Cape Breton 62-76
Date: February 19, 2012
There was no surprise in Halifax where 6th ranked Dalhousie (7-11) was defeated by second ranked Cape Breton (14-5) 76-62 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Cape Breton. Dalhousie was better in fourth quarter 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was American guard Cassie Cooke (175-91, college: Mt.St.Marys) who scored 26 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Jahlica Kirnon (170) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Courtney Thompson (175) produced 19 points and 5 rebounds and forward Alex Legge (178-88) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cape Breton have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain second place with 14-5 record having eight points less than leader Regina. Loser Dalhousie keeps the sixth position with 11 games lost. Cape Breton will face UPEI (#8) in Charlottetown in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Dalhousie will play at home against UNB in Fredericton and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
