There was no surprise in Doha where 7th ranked Al Wakrah (1-10) was defeated by second ranked As Sadd (9-2) 72-57 on Wednesday. As Sadd dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Al Wakrah's 32. They outrebounded Al Wakrah 47-29 including 16 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for Senegalese forward Djibril Thiam (208-86, college: Wyoming) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds. American center Michael Southall (210-82, college: La-Lafayette) helped adding 17 points and 10 rebounds. International center Mame Souleye (206-87) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds and Senegalese guard Sobilhaj Abdu (197) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Four Al Wakrah players scored in double figures. As Sadd have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 9-2 record having just two points less than leader Al Rayyan. Al Wakrah lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with ten games lost. As Sadd's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Jaysh.
