Second Stage Round 1: Champville - Moutahed 76-70
Date: February 23, 2012
No shocking result in a game in Dik El Mehdi where second ranked Champville (17-1) defeated 7th ranked Al Moutahed (6-12) 76-70. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-6. But Al Moutahed won second period 26-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Champville dominated on the defensive end, holding Al Moutahed to just 6 points in first quarter. It was a very good performance for the former international forward Fadi Khatib (199-79, agency: Pro Management Agency) who helped to win the game recording 25 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. American power forward Garnett Thompson (207-80, college: Providence) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Four Champville players scored in double figures. The former international power forward Bassel Bawji (203-89, college: Tulsa, agency: Pro Management Agency) answered with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard Austin Johnson (191-87, college: Oklahoma) added 16 points and 4 assists in the effort for Al Moutahed. Champville keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Al Riyadi. Al Moutahed lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the seventh place with 12 games lost. Champville will play against Bejjeh (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Al Moutahed will play against the league's leader Al Riyadi in Beirut and hopes to get back on the winning track.
