Regular Season Round 21: Hawks - Blaze 86-94

Very expected game in Gwynneville where 9th ranked Wollongong Hawks (6-17) were defeated by fifth ranked Gold Coast Blaze (13-9) 94-86 on Friday. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 8-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 94-86. Gold Coast Blaze made 25-of-29 free shots (86.2 percent) during the game. The former international forward Mark Worthington (202-83, college: Metro St.) stepped up and scored 26 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners and the former international power forward Anthony Petrie (203-83) chipped in 19 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American guard Ayinde Ubaka (193-85, college: California) with 24 points and 4 assists and guard Rhys Martin (193-86, college: Nova SE) scored 14 points and 4 assists. Five Gold Coast Blaze and four Wollongong Hawks players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gold Coast Blaze moved-up to fourth place. Wollongong Hawks lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 17 games lost. Gold Coast Blaze will face Kings (#7) in Sydney in the next round. Wollongong Hawks will play on the road against Adelaide 36ers in Findon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
