Regular Season Round 25: Clavijo - Palencia 96-82

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Logrono where 10th ranked Palencia Baloncesto (11-13) was defeated by eleventh ranked CB Clavijo (12-13) 96-82 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 12-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 96-82. CB Clavijo made 26-of-28 free shots (92.9 percent) during the game, while Palencia Baloncesto only scored ten points from the stripe. American point guard Mathew Witt (183-84, college: E.Kentucky) fired 29 points and 6 assists (made all of his ten free throws !!!) for the winners. Nigerian power forward Olaseni Lawal (208-86, college: Wayne St., MI) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. Lawal is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. CB Clavijo's coach Jesus Sala used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Ian O'Leary (201-86, college: St.Mary's, CA) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Enricue Garrido (178-82) added 21 points and 4 assists (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) respectively for lost side. Four Palencia Baloncesto players scored in double figures. CB Clavijo moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Caceres and Breogan. Palencia Baloncesto at the other side dropped to the thirteenth position with 13 games lost. CB Clavijo will face Lobe Huesca (#16) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Palencia Baloncesto will play against Girona FC.
