Regular Season Round 19: Belfast Star - UCC Demons 83-85

Fourth-ranked Belfast Star (3-16) made lots of trouble for first ranked UCC Demons (14-5) on Saturday. The visitors from Cork managed to secure only two-point victory 85-83. However their fans expected easier game. American forward Shawn Atupem (200-89, college: Mt.St.Mary's) fired 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds (on 14-of-15 shooting from the field) for the winners. Guard Niall Murphy (180-86) chipped in a double-double by scoring 26 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international guard Paul Cummins (188-84, college: Lafayette) produced 29 points and 5 steals (perfect behind the arc making all six shots !!!) and American forward Joshua Johnson (199-85, college: Bowie St.) added 11 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. UCC Demons have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 14-5 record. Belfast Star at the other side keeps the fourth position with 16 games lost. UCC Demons are looking forward to face UCD Marian (#3) in Dublin in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Belfast Star will play on the road against the league's second-placed UL Eagles in Limerick and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
