Very expected game when 12th ranked Gandia Basquet (4-13) lost to fourth ranked Las Rozas (11-6) in Valencia 72-80 on Saturday. Gandia Basquet was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Las Rozas dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Gandia Basquet's 36. They outrebounded Gandia Basquet 38-24 including a 29-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Forward Javier Salson (199-82, college: Bloomfield) notched 22 points and 4 assists (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and center Jose Balmon (204-81) supported him with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Four Las Rozas players scored in double figures. Las Rozas' coach Alonso de Madariaga allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 17 points and 5 rebounds by point guard Antonio Segovia (185-89) did not help to save the game for Gandia Basquet. American forward Anthony jr. Oha (198-83, college: Prairie View A&M) added 20 points. Las Rozas have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Gandia Basquet lost fifth consecutive game. Gandia Basquet at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the eleventh position with 13 games lost. They share it with Tenerife. Las Rozas will meet at home Barca Regal II (#6) in the next round. Gandia Basquet will play against Aurteneche M. (#5) in Vitoria-Gasteiz and hope to secure a win.
