Regular Season Round 39: Iwate Big Bulls - Okinawa GK 82-84

Tenth-ranked Iwate Big Bulls (9-26) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Okinawa GK (28-7) on Saturday. The visitors from Okinawa managed to secure only two-point victory 84-82. However their fans expected much easier game. Iwate Big Bulls trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 12 after three quarters before a 26-16 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 82-84 at the end of the game. Okinawa GK dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Iwate Big Bulls' 40. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for American center Jeff Newton (205-81, college: Indiana) who led his team to a victory with 21 points. His fellow American import center Dillion Sneed (203-84, college: E.Tenn.St.) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Okinawa GK's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American forward Jamal Boykin (203-87, college: California) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds and guard Yoshiaki Yamamoto (-82) added 21 points and 5 assists in the effort for Iwate Big Bulls. Four Iwate Big Bulls players scored in double figures. Okinawa GK have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 28-7 record. Iwate Big Bulls lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with 26 games lost. Okinawa GK will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Iwate Big Bulls will play again at home against the league's leader Okinawa GK (#1) and are hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
