Regular Season Round 21: Real Canoe - Las Gaunas 59-54

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Las Gaunas (11-9) lost to third ranked Real Canoe (15-4) in Madrid 54-59 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Las Gaunas won third quarter 14-7. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for American forward Kate Mills (185-86, college: Massachusetts) who led her team to a victory with 16 points. point guard Laura Velasco (175-90) contributed with 12 points for the winners. Cuban guard Licet Castillo (175-73) answered with 16 points and American power forward Genai Walker (190-82, college: Cent.Arkansas) added 9 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Las Gaunas. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Real Canoe. They maintain third place in Group B with 15-4 record behind leader Pais Vasco. Loser Las Gaunas keeps the fifth position with nine games lost. Real Canoe will face league's second-placed Conquero in Huelva in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Las Gaunas will play at home against Casablanca in Zaragoza and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
