Second Stage Round 1: Amicale - Residence 85-80

Everything could happen in Steinsel at the game between two tied teams. Both fourth ranked Amicale and 5th ranked Residence had identical 10-8 record. This time Amicale used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Bereldange 85-80 on Sunday night. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Residence won third quarter 24-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Amicale dominated on the defensive end, holding Residence to just 7 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Residence 43-21 including a 34-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Amicale shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 61.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Residence's players. Croatian-Austrian forward Ivan Djerman (203-83) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 16 rebounds for the winners and Cameroonian forward Yves Mekongo (201-87, college: La Salle, agency: Dynamics Global Management) chipped in 12 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Mekongo is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Amicale players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Marcus Kennedy (193-84, college: Montevallo, agency: Interperformances) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds and U.S. Virgin Isl. Forward Jerome Gumbs (194-82, college: USF) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!). Amicale (11-8) moved-up to third place. Residence at the other side dropped to the fourth position with nine games lost. They share it with Etzella and Musel Pikes. Amicale are looking forward to face league's leader T71 in Dudelange in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Residence will play at home against the league's second-placed Sparta in Bertrange and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
