Regular Season Round 40: Shinshu BW - Toyama Grouses 76-79

Seventh-ranked Shinshu BW (13-23) used its home court advantage to challenge third ranked Toyama Grouses (19-15) in Nagano. The visitors from Toyama managed to secure only three-point victory 79-76. However their fans expected much easier game. Shinshu BW was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Toyama Grouses brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Dominican power forward Larry Turner (210-82, college: Tennessee St., agency: Strategic Sports) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds and Masashi Joho (183-82) who added 20 points during the contest. Five Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Derek Raivio (190-84, college: Gonzaga) responded with 18 points and 4 assists and his fellow American import power forward Lee Roberts (201-87, college: Findlay, OH) scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Toyama Grouses have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 19-15 record having five points less than leader Okinawa GK. Shinshu BW lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with 23 games lost. Toyama Grouses will play against Saitama Broncos (#9) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Shinshu BW will play against Takamatsu FA and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
