Regular Season Round 18: Maccabi Ashdod - Hapoel Holon 97-98

The most exciting game of round 18 in the Premier League took place in Ashdod. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 7th ranked Maccabi Ashdod (7-9) to third ranked Hapoel Holon (11-6) 98-97 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Maccabi Ashdod. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 27-17 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Hapoel Holon made 27-of-32 free shots (84.4 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Maccabi Ashdod helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Ron Lewis (193-84, college: Ohio St.) who scored 34 points (!!!). Power forward Bryant Dunston (202-86) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Josh Duncan (203-86) who recorded 28 points and 8 rebounds and swingman Josh Carter (201-88, college: Texas A&M) added 30 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Hapoel Holon maintains third position with 11-6 record having just two points less than leader Maccabi T-A. Maccabi Ashdod at the other side keeps the seventh place with nine games lost. Hapoel Holon are looking forward to face league's leader Maccabi T-A in Tel-Aviv in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Maccabi Ashdod will play on the road against Maccabi Rishon (#4) in Rishon Le-Zion and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
