There was a small surprise when eighth ranked Basquete Clube (4-10) beat 6th ranked Maranhao (5-10) in Aracatuba 82-70 on Monday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 25-11 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Basquete Clube made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. It was a good game for center Fernanda Bibiano (193-85) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists (went 14 for 14 at the free throw line !!!). Forward Gilmara Amaral (175-79) contributed with 21 points for the winners. International swingman Iziane Castro Marques (183-82, agency: Josep and Nicolas) answered with 27 points and center Dominick Rocha (185-89) added 11 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Maranhao. Basquete Clube maintains eighth place with 4-10 record. Maranhao lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with ten games lost. Basquete Clube will face higher ranked Sao Jose (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
