Regular Season Round 20: Hod Hasharon - Ironi Ramat Gan 89-82

Rather predictable result when fifth ranked Hod Hasharon (11-9) beat at home 8th ranked Ironi Ramat Gan (8-12) 89-82 on Tuesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 28-20. But Ironi Ramat Gan won second period 22-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Hod Hasharon won last quarter 24-19. They also forced 20 Ironi Ramat Gan turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican point guard Javier Gonzalez (182-89, college: N.Carolina St.) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists. Naturalized Latvian swingman Gary Gandel (203-80) chipped in 24 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals. The former international power forward Amit Tamir (208-79, college: California) produced 27 points and 6 rebounds and guard Lior Rubinstein (192-83) added 11 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists respectively for the guests. Four Hod Hasharon and five Ironi Ramat Gan players scored in double figures. Hod Hasharon moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Kiryat Tivon. Ironi Ramat Gan at the other side dropped to the ninth position with 12 games lost. Hod Hasharon will face bottom-ranked Hapoel Yokneam/Megido (#14) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ironi Ramat Gan will play against Elitzur Ramla (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
