Regular Season Round 18: IR - Valur 102-95
Date: March 2, 2012
Rather expected game in Reykjavik where bottom-ranked Valur (0-18) was defeated by tenth ranked IR (7-11) 102-95 on Friday. Valur trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 31-23 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 95-102 at the end of the game. IR forced 19 Valur turnovers. American guard Robert Jarvis (180-87, college: ORU) scored 29 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Rodney Alexander (201-87, college: Oklahoma City) chipped in 24 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four IR players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was center Birgir Petursson (205-86) with 27 points and 6 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) and American forward Marvin Jackson (195, college: St.Andrews, agency: Strategic Sports) scored 21 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. IR moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Fjolnir. Newly promoted Valur still closes the standings. IR will face league's second-placed Stjarnan on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Valur will play against Haukar (#11) in Hafnarfjordur and hopes to get finally their first victory.
