Twelfth-ranked Amyntas Dafnis (9-12) gave a tough game to second ranked Apollon Patras (16-5) in Athens on Saturday. The visitors from Patra managed to secure only four-point victory 84-80. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 25-19 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 4-point victory in overtime. Amyntas Dafnis was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Nikos Argyropoylos (188-78) stepped up and scored 31 points and 6 assists for the winners and naturalized Serbian swingman Vladimir Petrovic-Stergiou (198-77, agency: BeoExcell) chipped in 12 points and 17 rebounds. Apollon Patras' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was guard Kostas Vardavas (193-81) with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds and guard Leonidas Zoupas (182-82) scored 15 points and 9 assists. Five Apollon Patras and four Amyntas Dafnis players scored in double figures. Apollon Patras maintains second place with 16-5 record behind leader Panelefsiniakos. Amyntas Dafnis at the other side dropped to the eleventh position with 12 games lost. Apollon Patras will face Nea Kifisia (#6) in Athens in the next round. Amyntas Dafnis will play on the road against the league's leader Panelefsiniakos (#1) in Eleusina.
