Regular Season Round 22: Blaze - Kings 90-83

There was no surprise in Broadbeach where 7th ranked Kings (9-16) were defeated by third ranked Gold Coast Blaze (15-9) 90-83 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 6 points at the halftime before their 29-10 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Gold Coast Blaze shot 24 for 35 from the free-throw line, while Kings only scored five points from the stripe. Kings were plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Dominican guard Adris Deleon (180-84, college: E.Washington) fired 33 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for the winners. The former international power forward Anthony Petrie (203-83) chipped in 20 points and 9 rebounds. Gold Coast Blaze's coach Joey Wright used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Ben Madgen (193-85, college: Augusta St.) produced 30 points and 5 rebounds and naturalized Kazakhstan swingman Anatoly Bose (200-88, college: Nicholls St., agency: Priority Sports) added 22 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Gold Coast Blaze have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 15-9 record having just three points less than leader Breakers. Kings at the other side keep the seventh place with 16 games lost. Gold Coast Blaze will face Townsville Crocodiles (#4) in Wulguru in the next round. Kings will play on the road against Wollongong Hawks in Gwynneville and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
