Regular Season Round 42: Toyama Grouses - Saitama Bron. 85-84

Very expected game when 9th ranked Saitama Broncos (10-25) were edged on the road by third ranked Toyama Grouses (21-15) 85-84 on Sunday. However just one-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Saitama Broncos were trailing by 12 points at halftime but managed to get 8-point lead after three quarters before a 22-13 charge of Toyama Grouses, which allowed them to win the game. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Toyama Grouses outrebounded Saitama Broncos 49-36 including 34 on the defensive glass. American players dominated the game. The best player for the winners was swingman Brian Harper (206-85, college: Paine, agency: Pro One Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga, agency: SDJ Sports) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was forward John Flowers (200-89, college: W.Virginia, agency: KMG Sports Management) who recorded 35 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and swingman John Humphrey (188-80, college: Middle Tenn.St., agency: Court Side) added 21 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Four Saitama Broncos players scored in double figures. Toyama Grouses have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 21-15 record having four points less than leader Okinawa GK, which they share with Shiga L-Stars. Loser Saitama Broncos keep the ninth place with 25 games lost. Toyama Grouses will face league's leader Hamamatsu Phoenix in Mikawa in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Saitama Broncos will play at home against Chiba Jets (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
