There was a minor upset when 4th placed Unicaja Malaga (13-10) was defeated at home by sixth ranked Lagun Aro GBC (13-10) 89-81 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 28-13 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. It was a great evening for American forward Andy Panko (204-77, college: Lebanon Valley) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points. His fellow American import guard Jimmy Baron (191-86, college: Rhode Island) helped adding 21 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Latvian guard Kristaps Valters (190-81) responded with 16 points and swingman Alejandro Abrines (198-93) scored 15 points. Four Unicaja Malaga players scored in double figures. Lagun Aro GBC have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Unicaja and Lucentum. Unicaja Malaga lost third consecutive game. Lagun Aro GBC will meet at home higher ranked Caja Laboral (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Unicaja Malaga will play against Asefa Estudiantes in Madrid and hope to secure a win.
