Regular Season Round 24: Novipiu Casale - Sidigas AV 96-65
Date: March 7, 2012
Bottom-ranked Novipiu CM managed to get a sixth victory, breaking the four-game losing streak on Wednesday night. This time newly promoted Novipiu CM outleveled eighth-ranked Air Avellino in Casale 96-65. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 31-point difference suggests that Novipiu CM is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Air Avellino's players. The best player for the winners was American swingman Ricky Minard (196-82, college: Morehead St.) who scored 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. The other American import guard Mustafa Shakur (193-84, college: Arizona) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists. Four Novipiu CM players scored in double figures. Novipiu CM's coach Andrea Valentini felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Slovenian-Croatian forward Jurica Golemac (209-77, agency: Beo Basket) who recorded 19 points and 7 rebounds and American-FYR Macedonian point guard Marques Green (167-82, college: St.Bonaventure) added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Newly promoted Novipiu CM maintains seventeenth position with 6-17 record. Air Avellino at the other side keeps the eighth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Cimberio VA. Novipiu CM are looking forward to face higher ranked Fabi Shoes Montegranaro (#14) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Air Avellino will play against Scavolini Pesaro (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
