Regular Season Round 24: Cimberio VA - Montepaschi 65-77

Leader Montepaschi Siena delivered the seventeenth victory. This time they beat 7th ranked Cimberio Varese (12-11) 77-65. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Cimberio Varese. The game was mostly controlled by Montepaschi Siena. Cimberio Varese was better in second period 29-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Montepaschi Siena dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Cimberio Varese's 20 and made 19-of-23 charity shots (82.6 percent) during the game. Montepaschi Siena forced 20 Cimberio Varese turnovers. Cimberio Varese was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American-FYR Macedonian point guard Bo McCalebb (183-85, college: New Orleans) who led his team to a victory with 18 points and 5 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). Australian center David Andersen (212-80) contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Finnish guard Teemu Rannikko (188-80) replied with 15 points and 4 steals and swingman Gabriele Ganeto (200-87) added 9 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Cimberio Varese. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains first position with 17-6 record. Cimberio Varese at the other side dropped to the eighth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Sidigas AV. Montepaschi Siena will play against Vanoli-Braga (#15) in Cremona in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Cimberio Varese will play on the road against Umana Venezia (#5) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
