Regular Season Round 20: Tsmoki-Minsk II - Rubon 65-74

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Minsk-2006 II (7-14) was defeated at home by third ranked Rubon (11-9) 74-65 on Friday. Minsk-2006 II trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 15 after three quarters before a 22-16 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 65-74 at the end of the game. Rubon forced 24 Minsk-2006 II turnovers. Strangely Minsk-2006 II outrebounded Rubon 54-30 including a 29-12 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Dmitri Akulich (192-86) who scored 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. point guard Artem Malkov (185-88) chipped in 14 points and 4 assists. Akulich is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Rubon players scored in double figures. Lithuanian forward Ronaldas Rutkauskas (203-92) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 19 rebounds and the former international guard Maksim Shustau (184-86) added 8 points and 7 assists respectively for the hosts. Rubon maintains third position with 11-9 record having ten points less than leader Minsk-2006. Minsk-2006 II lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth place with 14 games lost. Rubon will face league's second-placed Grodno-93 at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Minsk-2006 II will play against SBK Osipovichi (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
